Dear Fellow Entrepreneur

I spent many years of my younger life trying to become a 'successful' entrepreneur. But just like so many others, I didn't even know how ‘success’ was really defined; I just knew what I thought success signified, which was that I should be raking in the money! Eventually I decided I wanted to know why so few entrepreneurs succeeded while most struggled. I launched Entrepreneur.co.za in 2006, but I had actually been focusing on entrepreneurship ever since I began my studying of human development in 1997.

I learned that success wasn't just about making money, but somehow most entrepreneurs seemed to have forgotten that generating and preserving income to create wealth was nevertheless still a huge part of achieving entrepreneurial success. I learned that working for oneself did not hold much meaning compared to working for a cause far greater than yourself. I learned that although technology is a tool that can greatly assist us in running an efficient operation, in the beginning stages of introducing it into a business, it can often feel like yet another hurdle to get over. I learned that most entrepreneurs struggle with the same or very similar challenges, and that we tended not to be very well conditioned in our mindsets towards achieving success as REAL Entrepreneurs.

One thing is for certain - the path of an entrepreneur is not an easy one. Over 97% of entrepreneurs are in fact no more than self-employed workers who find themselves stuck in survival mode. I find this really rather tragic and very upsetting because I am so aware of the incredible value entrepreneurs have to offer the world, and yet this great value is being quashed by the struggle for mere survival.

In 2008 I launched the Entrepreneur Success Club. I then found that I was not quite sure how to make it work in the most beneficial way for members. In fact, during 2008 and much of 2009, it was in a continual process of my changing things, adding, subtracting, adjusting…and sometimes just messing it up, quite frankly! But now in 2010, with the help of many friends and experts, I can confidently say that we have created the very best offering of tools, resources and support for any aspiring or existing entrepreneur who wants to achieve true success as a REAL Entrepreneur.

Entrepreneurship, like many other aspects of life, is a game and all we have to do is learn how to play the game better - more skillfully, more strategically.
