Brian's Introduction

By Brian Walsh (Founder & CEO of Entrepreneur.co.za)

So you want to become an entrepreneur?  Or perhaps you’re already an entrepreneur?  If you’re not achieving everything you want to achieve, this is the website to help you! I am glad you are here, and urge you to go through this section carefully regardless of whether you still want to become an entrepreneur, or whether you have been one for many years.

In my entrepreneurial journey I have learnt that entrepreneurship is not about running a business, but rather about the person you become. Entrepreneurship forces you to look inwards and develop yourself personally. What do I mean by this? Well, some people may be able to start a business and make it succeed without too much trouble. I am yet to meet such a person, but by the laws of probability, I assume that they do exist. The rest of us however, have to struggle on our journey to achieving success. What leads to this success is not the business we develop, but rather the development of our ability to adapt and change, to address our weaknesses and improve on these, and to learn through our experiences.

We all want to succeed in life. We all want to feel fulfilled. In truth though, we can achieve neither success nor fulfillment without constant change, improvement and new experiences. Life is a journey, and if you are willing, it is a journey towards success and fulfillment. Entrepreneurship is just one way of taking this journey. It is, in my opinion, one of the better and potentially more rewarding ways of taking the journey of life.

The important factor here is that entrepreneurship is a journey, and inevitably, it is a long and often lonely one with many pitfalls and dangers along the way. You need to learn to love the journey, rather than the destination.

In conclusion, I go back to my original point that entrepreneurship is a journey of personal growth rather than business growth. It is only through growing as an individual that you can get closer to ultimate success and fulfillment.

Being an entrepreneur can lead to the ultimate reward of freedom. But you need to understand that you will never achieve this ultimate goal unless you focus on YOU. Freedom comes from within, so if you grow, your life grows.

I wish you luck on this journey, and hope that what I have created in this site will not only help and inspire you, but will also prove a reliable companion on your journey.
